Advanced on adding native settlements. Made a map for cultural centers for these pre-columbian cultures:

  • Fort Ancient
  • Missisipians
  • Aztec
  • Huastec
  • Mixtec
  • Maya
  • P’urhépecha
  • Totonac
  • Zapotec
  • Cañaris
  • Chachapoya
  • Chimù
  • Inca
  • Muisca
  • Tairona

Also added native tribes:

  • Artic Mammal Hunters
  • Hunters-Gatherers
  • Fishing people
  • Plains Bison Hunters
  • Maiz Farmers

Still some work left to do to leave them working…

I’m also collaborating with “Z”, the author of Necklace of the Eye, looking forward to use it to display expedition in 3D, have a sneak peak!

  • Configured different terrain food modifiers
  • Fixed refresh bug on the jcurses version
  • Ship movement is now facing based instead of orthogonal
  • Added Wind currents
  • Ship speed is determined by its sailing point (which depends on it’s heading and direction of the wind: Beating, Close-Beam-Broad Reach, Running)
  • Forest and mountains now block LOS
  • Storms are now generated and can grow or shrink, they are also displaced by the wind and block your LOS
  • Storms destroy your ships and make you get lost
  • Special points of sail for storms (On Poles, Surfing)

Advancing towards a graphical UI, SERF is being updated with a simple reusable gfx layer dubbed “Oryx-UI”. Implementation goes on.

I also corrected a small but kind of stopper bug, which won’t allow people to travel back into Spain :( may be it’s worth a release.

Version 0.1.7 brings the following changes

  • You can now have audiences with the Catholic Kings, and gain titles and maravedíes from them
  • Your ships now deteriorate in your trips, but you can also repair them using Carpenters
  • Supplies from Spain shops have been increased to enable long term success.
  • Many other small fixes!

A simple shoutbox (Yellbox) has been implemented; it wasn’t too complex using JQuery!

One thing left to enhance would be checking for the last update time, in order to save bandwidth. (later, i’m tired :) )

Phew! At last I implemented Battle Suppressors, so that there can be safe zones where your expeditions are protected from evil players :)

The world data model scares me… I wonder how it will work when a big scale world is deployed…

I also feel I’m a bit stranded about the purpose of pixal… going full scale with an extensive world seems overkill! May be I must go to the basics, fighting and stuff… I must really implement item depreciation and reduce the inflation caused by the tournament prizes…

Anyhow, must just add chat to complete what was planned for v0.1.16 and rest for a while… Expedition needs some attention, then CastlevaniaRL :)

  • You can now loot gold from defeated expedition, I decided to simplify this, so you can no longer steal the items from the expedition. This will also help the friendly nature of the game (bandits are not fun for those whose items are stolen, specially newbies)
  • HP has been scaled accordingly, only hundreds of fights will led to balance
